Analytics

Trading analytics that answer the next question

A single number rarely explains a trading account. Action Journal puts the core metrics beside each other, then breaks them down by instrument and session so you can see where your results actually come from.

The core metrics, together

Net performance, win rate, profit factor, average win and loss, and maximum drawdown for the range you choose.

Where the results come from

Break performance down by symbol and by Asia, London and New York sessions.

Patterns, not just totals

Advanced analytics on Plus looks for the habits behind the numbers.

The numbers that matter

  • Net performance for the selected range, from 7 days to 12 months.
  • Win rate, with the count of trades behind it.
  • Profit factor: gross profit divided by gross loss.
  • Average win and average loss, with the largest of each.
  • Maximum drawdown as a percentage of peak equity.
  • Daily profit and loss, so you can see consistency rather than a single total.

The point is not to collect metrics. It is to put a win rate next to a profit factor and a drawdown, because any one of them can look good while the account is fragile.

Break it down by instrument and session

Two traders can have the same win rate and very different results. One may make most of the money on a single pair; another may give it back in the New York session. The instrument and session views show where the account is actually working, and where it is not.

Find patterns, not just totals

Plus adds pattern detection: a look at what the data suggests about your edge, rather than another chart to interpret. It is a prompt for a better review, not a signal service, and it does not tell you what to trade.

Review on a schedule

  1. Review the last 7 days at the end of each week. Look for one habit to keep and one to stop.
  2. Review the last 30 days at the end of each month. Compare instruments and sessions.
  3. Review 90 days and 12 months once a quarter. Look for changes in drawdown and profit factor, not just profit.
  4. Write the conclusion in a journal note while the evidence is fresh.

Questions and answers

What is profit factor?

Profit factor is gross profit divided by gross loss. A value above 1 means the strategy made more than it lost over the selected range. It says nothing on its own about sample size or risk, so read it next to the trade count and drawdown.

How is win rate calculated?

Win rate is the number of winning closed trades divided by the total number of closed trades in the selected range, shown with the trade count.

What does maximum drawdown show?

It shows the largest peak-to-trough fall in equity over the range, as a percentage. It is a measure of the worst stretch in the data, not a prediction of the next one.

Do I need the Plus plan for analytics?
